The Drone Girl LLC is a family-owned agricultural drone service based on our multigenerational farm in Slaughters, Kentucky. I’m Megan Scott, and while I’m the public face of the company, our success is truly a team effort. Along with my husband, Joshua and our four children we are combining tradition and innovation while using the newest spray drone technology on the market.

While Joshua and I attended the same high school we got to know one another while working at the Webster County Conservation District. Joshua graduated in 2010 with his Masters in Agronomy from Murray State University. Currently he farms full time and has a fencing company called Scott Fencing LLC. I attended Madisonville Community College and received my associates degree. During college I began working at the Farm Service Agency (FSA) part time and was later hired on full time after college.

In the spring of 2020, as the pandemic began and I was expecting our fourth child, I left my government job to focus on our family. Nearly six years later, with the kids all in school, Joshua and I decided it was time to pursue something new.

Our farm produces a variety of row crops — corn, soybeans, wheat, and both burley and dark air-cured tobacco — and supports nearly every type of livestock you can imagine, from Angus and Longhorn cattle to a pair of bison and everything in between.

Drones had long intrigued us, and after discovering a YouTube channel called NuWay Ag, the pieces started to fall into place. We purchased our drones and spray trailer from NuWay Ag in Ohio, and Joshua and I both earned our FAA Remote Pilot Certificates (Part 107). Because the aircraft we operate weigh more than 55 pounds, we obtained the FAA’s 44807 exemption. We are now awaiting our Part 137 certification, which will authorize us to apply pesticides and fertilizers from unmanned aircraft. We fully anticipate receiving that final approval in time for the start of the 2026 season.
